An Entry Visa to India is granted to Persons of Indian Origin and also to those who are dependant family members of Employment Visa or or Research Visa holders. An India Entry Visa can also be extended later by the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer in India on a yearly basis up to a maximum period of 5 years.

Eligibility for applying for entry visa:
1. Applicant is a person of Indian origin, defined as a person who has held Indian nationality, or a child or grandchild of a person who has held Indian nationality.
2. Applicant is a spouse or child of a person of Indian origin.
3. Applicant is a spouse or dependent family member of a foreign national coming to India on long term visa such as Employment, Business, Research or Student. In such cases, the visa duration granted is co-terminus with the period of the principal visa holder. The principal visa holder's visa must be issued before the spouse and dependent family members can apply for their Entry Visa to India.
4. Applicant's purpose of visit to India does not match any other type of visa. In this the purpose of visit should be clearly explained.

a. The Embassy / Consulates reserve the right to seek additional documentation at their discretion.

b. Applicants must carefully review the time period of visa that they seek and must note and understand that Visa is not a matter of right and hence the Embassy / Consulates could deny the visa if not found eligible / or does not have adequate supporting documentation or grant a visa for a period lesser than what has been requested in the application and what the applicant has paid for. There shall be no clarifications or enquiries in this regard and the decision of the Consulate will be final and binding.
